oh love, where are you?

There are many shitty bands who assume because they play an electric guitar, they should be neatly placed into the *rock* genre. NOOOO!!!! Stop the madness at once! And ALSO-- if you'd consider rap "artists" -artists, and country "bands" -bands, they are shitty as well (annnndddd you're an idiot).

So I thought I'd share my list of approved bands, 100% goodness:

Pearl Jam
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Death Cab for Cutie
Deftones
Nine Inch Nails
Smashing Pumpkins
Foo Fighters
Nirvana
Coldplay
Dave Matthews Band
Queen
Jimmy Hendrix
Third Eye Blind
The Shins
Depeche Mode
Ben Folds
Chicago

(Random, yes? And there are hundreds more... but read on...)

Talent and no talent:

I just wanna throw this out there, as well. Classical music is very cool. It can jerk every emotion from your body. Chopin, Beethoven, Bache, Benedict, and others... are genius. The romantic classical composers really knew what they were doing. Why? First of all, because they were intelligent. But mostly, because they put their heart and soul into their music. It's a rare occurrance to find musicians today who do that very same thing. It's overwhelmingly sad to me, because growing up, I was surrounded by music. My grandfather is a professional steel guitar/ "dobro" player-- and plays for countless bands during their concerts or recording sessions. My father is a drummer, guitarist, clarinetist, and also plays harmonica. He was in marching band throughout school, and a rock band during his 20's, while we were living in Mobile. My mother does not play an instrument, but is a huge music-lover, who introduced me to the alternative bands when I was younger. I, myself, was in a rock band a couple of years ago, writing and singing songs. And was also in Choir throughout highschool. Needless to say, music runs through my blood. And these bubblegum/emo teenage drama pricks, and all the hardcore rappers who grew up in the hood but now own twelve SUV's from GMC that I hear on the radio and see on TV constantly?? Wow, um... All I have to say is they really need to do some research before they are introduced as a "band" or "artist". Because I see REAL artists strumming a guitar and singing some really awesome tunes in college hallways who don't make shit and don't get any recognition... and they deserve it a billion times more than those assholes do.

Selfishness:

My friend Adam had posted a bulletin on MySpace about how the music industry is trying to put a ban on tabs being posted on the Internet, which means that regular Joe's won't have the ability to learn their favorite songs. What is happening? Is it a crime that a band writes a song that inspires a fan to want to learn it? Shouldn't that be encouraged? That just doesn't make sense to me. It seems like all these people care about is losing money, and how they can rob the people who are listening... and enjoying. It's bullshit!

What happened to making music for the love of making music? Not for the love of money... That irritates me to no end. It's like back in the day when Pearl Jam got all pollitical (as per usual) and fought with TicketMaster for selling their tickets for outrageous prices. Pearl Jam's fan base was made up mostly of "grunge kids", as they were made-- people who could not afford their ticket prices. It's just absurd.

In conclusion, I hate record companies, singers who have to redo the vocal tracks 15 times because they can't really sing, bands that look and sound exactly the same, rappers who make money off of hating successful human beings because they grew up on the other side of the tracks, the idiots who run the music industry who claim bands don't make them enough money because of the Internet... you get the idea.

Bring back love for music. Please...
